Genetically modified trees are not grown commercially in timber plantations in Australia, but genetic modification may have the potential to enhance tree growth, wood quality and disease resistance in the future.

Use of genetically modified trees in plantations would only proceed once all risks have been scientifically assessed and all necessary regulatory safeguards put in place.
